TeamGB athletes from Business and Economics in the lead
1 August 2012
Two students and two graduates of the School of Business and Economics, Loughborough University, have shone so far at the London2012 Games in teams that have won each of their games to date.
Men’s Hockey players Richard Smith (MSc in Business Analysis student) and Iain Mackay (Banking, Finance and Management graduate) have both taken to the pitch for their first preliminary match against Argentina played on Monday, winning 4-1. A brilliant goal from Smith, affectionately known as Smudge, brought the team to 3-0 in the second half.
Laura Unsworth, an Accounting and Financial Management student, plays in TeamGB women’s hockey which won both its preliminary matches. And Claire Rafferty, a graduate of the MSc in Economics, is in the women’s football team, which also won its two matches played so far.
The men’s and women’s hockey teams are both ranked 4th in the world and are both favoured to medal at this year’s Games.
We are extremely proud of our TeamGB athletes and will be supporting them all the way! To help us support them throughout the Games, please follow us on @LboroSBE and Tweet your well wishes.
