Dr Antuela Anthi Tako
Lecturer in Operations Research
Antuela joined Loughborough University in July 2010. Prior to her current appointment, Antuela worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Warwick. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Athens University of Economics and Business (2002), MSc in Operational Research and Management Sciences (2003), and a PhD in Operational Research (2009) from Warwick University. She has also had experience of working in consultancy projects. Antuela is an active member of the Operational Research Society. She is has been accredited to the level of the Associate of the Operational Research Society (AORS).
Antuela’s research interests include: the comparison of simulation approaches (Discrete-Event Simulation and System Dynamics), participative simulation modelling, Soft Systems Methodology, conceptual modelling and healthcare modelling.
Antuela’s PhD thesis undertook an empirical approach to the comparison of two widely used simulation approaches in Operational Research, Discrete-Event Simulation and System Dynamics. The comparison considered the differences and similarities of the two simulation approaches from two different perspectives: model development and model use. The work undertaken in the thesis is innovative for the field of Operational Research because it brings closer the two fields of simulation modelling. It provides an understanding of the model development process and insights about how models are perceived by users. The research undertaken as part of her PhD thesis has received international recognition. Antuela received the Dana Meadow Award for the best student paper submitted at the System Dynamics Society Conference 2008. Antuela’s thesis was also chosen as a finalist for the PhD Prize 2009 by the OR Society.
Another area of interest for Antuela is the development of participative simulation modelling, called PartiSim. Prior to joining Loughborough University, Antuela worked as a Research Fellow on a project that involved the development of tools adapted from Soft Systems Methodology to assist the development of participative conceptual models for simulation modelling.
